The Befuddled Man Session 3

Continuing their investigation into the disappearance of rune scribe Hershel Cohen, gnome mage Eric Smith, child impersonator/thief Terry Grey, consulting detective wolfman J. Wolfington III followed their clues to a sewer excavation in the middle of Green Circle Road. The laborers answered the groups questions helpfully at first, saying they had finished enlarging the pipes running south, but quickly grew tired of the parties probing. A mouseman came forward, whispering he had seen a feral looking figure crawling away from the dig after they had closed the pipes.

The group was soon kicked out, but not before Terry Grey noticed bare footprints in the mud around the excavation. Foot prints of several different sizes, with long pointed nails. A thorough discussion ensued, ending with the team staking out the dig, and the alley behind the tannery that evening. Terry and Eric sat in the pit watchfully as the lamps on the street were lit. Wolfington waited in the alley alone, sword bared.

Their vigil continued for hours, punctuated by mysterious noises and the sighting by Wolfington of a figure crawling down the wall of the tannery. An hour after the wolfman lost sight of the figure, the halfling and the gnome spotted it and pursued. Joined by Wolfington, the three fought and killed the thing.

Discovering that it was a Sewer Ghoul, they decided to investigate the wall it had been crawling on, and followed it’s muddy hand prints to the roof of the Tannery. Eschewing stealth, Eric shined his new lantern down the venting hole they had discovered and the group entered the storage room below. Alarmed by the light a pack of sewer ghouls leapt into combat, wounding Wolfington, terrifying Terry, and encircling Eric. A fresh wave of ghouls climbed over crates to reach the party, as a sewer troll lumbered into view.
