The Befuddled Man Session 1

Their wallets considerably fuller, gnome Mage Eric Smith, halfling Child Impersonator/Thief Terry Grey, Consulting Detective wolfman J. Wolfington III, wander London on a Sunday Morning.
The halfling went to see his tailor, Jerrub Dull, to have the blood stained fabric on his lined coat replaced. Dull told him it would be a couple days before it was done. Wolfington visited his brother’s hideout behind a feed store, and asked about a good place to buy cheap clockwork fingers. Johnny directed him to a fence called Honest Andy’s. After discovering that Honest did not have what he was looking for, the wolfman requested a whole hand. Stunned that he would go as far as chop off his whole hand, Honest gave him the address of his supplier of Clockwork limbs.

Leaving morning Mass, Smith stoped at his bank to make a deposit, and bought a short sword at a nearby shop.

The Wolfman and the Halfling met and proceeded to the address Honest gave; an olive oil import business. They were directed to the back room, where a pretty young Halfling girl sat removing the meat and bones still attached to a clockwork foot. The girl introduced herself as Penny and told them she could modify a hand especially for them. Shamed by the price named, the wolfman worked out another way of paying. Penny agreed to a lower price, and Wolfington guarded over her as she made a mysterious errand with two sacks.

As they left Pennies’ Shop, Terry noticed a group of tuffs following them.

Eric, visited Polka. He showed her the chime and told her he got it from Stan the Stine. Polka is aghast, but recovers enough to demand that Eric pays the 5 pounds Stan the Stine owed her before he died. Eric agrees to work it off; in return Polka examines the chime. She discovers that if the chime is struck it will disturb any spellcasting nearby.

Breaking into a run with the Halfling on his shoulders, J. Wolfington III is chased through the streets until he lost their pursuers in a crowd listening to an Anglican Aluminate Preacher. Putting a distance behind them, they run to Bayswater to speak to a Yehudite Runesmith. Finding Cohen and Sons, they enter and speak to Zadok Cohen, a proper yehudite dwarf. After brief pleasantries, the three discussed possible runework. Grey decided on a rune to aid his attempt to appear as a human child, and J. requested two runes: one to defend him as a he fought and another keep him from falling to the temptation of alcohol. Zadok approved their order, but warned it would be awhile before they were done due to family trouble. After a bit of prying, he revealed his father, Hershel, was missing. The two offered to help.

Zadok gladly accepted, introduced his brother Azor, who showed them to their father’s study. Smith and Wolfington found stacks of papers written in Yiddish in the locked drawer of Hershel’s desk. The brothers said the papers were probably articles their father was writing for Guild Periodicals, with his research partner Algernon Gwint. Hearing that the guild may be involved, Wolfington left to get Smith, and Terry continued looking. The halfling found a business card from the Metropolitan Board of Works.

Returning with the gnome, the three discuss their next moves, deciding that Smith should visit the London Guildhall to investigate Algernon Gwint, while Woflington and Grey went to the Metropolitan Board of Works.
