Owlbears

Covered in feathers and fur, Owlbears live up to their namesake. Their boxy bear-like heads are crowned by the feathered “Ears” of an Owl, and their snouts end in a sharp snapping beak. Bulky feathered forelimbs end with massive clawed paws. Owlbears can stand on their hind legs to a towering height of 10 feet, and 1,700 lbs.
Owlbears are solitary omnivores requiring lots of hunting ground. Berries, fish, and small mammals make up most of their diet, although an Owlbear can bring down much larger prey. The few remaining Owlbears in England live in any isolated location where food is plentiful. Their cubs hatch from massive eggs and reach maturity at three years old.
Owl bears hibernate during the winter in groups, which can cause problems in the spring. More than one village has been terrorized by rival Owlbears fighting for territory.
The Owlbear is the mascot and ensuing nickname of the Queen’s Bammery Dwarven Regiment, a heavy infantry unit fighting in the Crimean War. The Exploits of “The Owlbears” are covered in several Sunday periodicals thanks to an embedded correspondent.
