After gnome Mage Eric Smith, and Child
Impersonator/thief Terry Grey, left Ratch’s tenement building, consulting detective
wolfman J. Wolfington the third sat with Ratch and shared a drink as a coach stopped in front of the building. Hearing a
noise from the back of the house, Wolfington was uneasy about the
following knock at the door. Ratch opened the door, and in stepped a
well dressed Eldren. He inquired about the building. After Wolfington
impatiently asked why he was interested, the Eldren offered to buy it. Ratch turned him down.
Wolfington ran out the back door as soon as the Eldren left. Looking around the alleyway
behind the building, he glimpsed a shadow with a tail stealing into a
window on the third floor. Running back into the house and up the stairs, Wolfinton drew his sword and yelled at Ratch to arm himself and follow.
Ratch stayed in the hallway and Wolfington entered the dark room. The Wolfman
stoped to light the lamp. Hearing a noise behind him he turned and saw a
small ratman armed with an open switchblade. The ratman quickly slashed
out at Wolfington. Engaging the ratman in conversation, Wolfington inquired why
he was there. The ratman (named Gully) halted puzzled, as two more
ratmen surprise Ratch in the hallway.
While Ratch fended off his two
assailants, Gully revealed that they are there for Ratch. A flurry
of brass knuckled punches knocked Ratch unconscious. The wolfman
incapacitated Gully and pursued the two ratmen carrying Ratch downstairs
before they can escape. Wolfington charged the two Ratmen, skillfully
wounding both of them. One managed to slink away, but the other was caught
on the end of the wolfmans sword. The ratman squeaked that Stan “the
Stein” paid them to kidnap Ratch and get the deed to the building. The
wolfman let the ratman go and patched up Ratch.
In
Limehouse Eric Smith was brought before dwarf Crimeboss Stan “The Stein”.
Stan questioned the gnome, but Eric’s shyness made the gangsters
inquires go in circles, until Stan looses his temper and sends a thug to
get “Amugli” the orc.
Smith asked Stan what he wants with the building. The dwarf revealed that the Metropolitan Board of Works is updating certain key sewer junctures, and Ratch’s building is sitting on one of them.
In the hallway, Terry Grey hid waiting. When the thug passes down the
hall, the halfing latched one of Polka’s collars around the thug's
ankle, incapacitiating him. Hearing the screams of pain, Stan looked in
the hallway and grabed Terry. He questioned the gnome and halfling side by
side, but their unhelpful answers infuriated him further. Stan shot
Eric in the head, but the bullet bounced away due to stone skin. Terry
stabed Stan in the neck wounding him. Stan pulled out a small chime, but
Eric slaped it out of his hand with a spell.
Hearing the shot, Cotton
the Ogre and Amugli the Orc burst in to the room to the aid of their
boss. Their brutish strength would have torn the two to pieces if it
weren’t for the spells cast by the gnome. After being knocked around
the room, Terry finished off Stan. Eric stole
the mysterious chime. Hearing the fight and gunfire, a crowd gathered in the hallway
to investigate. The halfling cunningly yelled out “Fire”, and the two
escaped in the ensuing confusion.
The three adventurers met with Booker a couple days later. The
gnome kingpin was very impressed with their work and pays them each 5
pounds. He also gave them a tip on a fixed fight to triple their money.
A week later Matheson Ratch sold his building to the Metropolitan Board of Works, for a goodly sum.
