Having been tasked by local crimeboss Booker with
helping Matheson Ratch repay the dept that he owes, gnome mage Eric
Smith, halfling thief/child impersonator Terry Grey, and consulting
detective wolfman J. Wolfington III explore the Tenement building Ratch
recently bought. While on an upper floor Smith was attacked by
something small and invisible. Grey and Wolfington came to the gnome’s
aid, and Grey incapacitated the beast with a potato. Wolfington stabbed
the beast (lightly) with his sword, revealing visible blood.
The Halfling examined the beast further
finding a small leather collar with a piece of glass attached. When
removed the beast became visible, revealing it to be a mangy mongrel of
the streets.
Hearing the commotion Ratch left his room and
discovered the group. Terry
pretended to be a small boy who lost his dog in the building. He asked what they were doing in his
building, since no one lives there because of the ghosts. Ratch let
the group search the building, starting with the basement.
The
Three proceeded down and were immediately attacked by invisible pigeons.
Between some fancy fistwork on the part of the wolfman, expertly cast
fireballs from the gnome, and wicked wicker basket wielding by the halfling, the pigeons were dealt with and their enchanted collars
collected.
Terry found the dog again and calmed it, as the other
two searched for clues. In the Basement, Eric discovered a small grime-covered window leading into an alley. After
climbing through he found a small pile of ash from a pipe.
J. Wolfington III deduced that a street-witch must have been hired to enchant these animals. But for what purpose?
The two sleuths went back up stairs where Terry had patched up the
wounded dog and named it. J. Wolfington reached down to pet the dog,
when the dog, remembering that the wolfman had stabbed it previously,
snarled and lashed out, biting off two fingers of the wolfmans right
hand.
Acting quickly, the gnome mage cast etheric Inferno,
cauterizing the wound, and the halfling cleaned the hand and dressed it.
They then hurried the wolfman up to the attic to continue searching for
clues.
The Attic had been converted into more rent-able space, by
hanging sheets across the room. Eric quickly ran through the attic
looking for any signs of invisible attackers. With none
appearing, the party continued to look for clues. Two chests were
discovered under a window, one empty the other was
full of junk. Examining around the window, another small pile of ash was
found along with a print of a cheap boot.
As the three investigators discussed this new evidence, J. Wolfington noticed the dog had come with them.
The Wolfman drew his sword, but Terry (who had grown attached to the mangy mongrel) steped in the way. After a short scuffle the dog ran away with less of a tail that it had
before, and the halfling and the wolfman had decided to put their fight
aside. For now.
